North
East Cheshire Drag Hunt Kennels
A
Drag Hunt does not chase a live quarry, instead the hounds follow
an artificial scent, "the drag", laid previous to the
hunt. A Drag Hunt is similar in nature to a fast cross country
ride. Scent is laid by a lead horse over a distance of approximately
3-4 miles, referred to as a "Leg". The Huntsman, Whippers-in
and Hounds follow the scent to the end of the Leg. The Field Master
and the riders commonly referred to as the "Field",
follow the Huntsman and Hounds also to the end of the Leg.
